‘Celebrate failure’- Anupam Kher’s Life mantra
Pune, January 6, 2018: It is failure that all of us fear the most. But there are few who strive on it and take it as a chance for new learning. A celebrity veteran actor Anupam Kher who is also Chairman, Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) is amongst those who strongly believes in celebrating failure after learning this exceptional life lesson at an early age of 15 from his father. Kher shared this and few other of his lifemantras while delivering an impromptu talk at Adhaya’18, an annual conference organized by Rotary District 3131 on Friday at Amanora Township, Hadapsar.
Abhay Gadgil, District Governor, Rotary District 3131 and Deepa Gadgil, Past President, Rotary Club-Pune University and currently First Lady ofRotary District 3131 along with other Rotarians were present on this occasion.
Kher exclaimed, “Since childhood I was keen in acting but was not a good actor. I tried to prove my acting skills in many school programs but always kept failing. The fear of what my family and others will say would haunt my mind. I was lucky to have a joint family who appreciated my efforts and not pointed out the failure. This love and support helped me chase my dreams and get me a gold medal in the National School of Drama and made me what I am today.” Having 32 years long innings in Bollywood and been acted in 511 movies, Kher defines himself as a sum total of his failures and not his success.
“Failure is multi-dimensional. It holds power to teach you many things that success can’t. So, I deem to celebrate failure before enjoying success. As a child I always received a bouquet of wild flowers from my father a gift for trying and making attempts. It is the event that fails but never a person,” expressed Kher while sharing story behind his unique life lesson.
While talking about today’s parent-children relation, Kher highlighted that children must not be burdened to achieve success but must be taught to make sincere efforts and maintain their originality. He also mentioned that one must find ways to reinvent themselves and enjoy every occasion as it comes in order to be happy.
“Today, we are constantly running and moving away from ourselves. We have started talking of people instead talking to them. Let's try to think and understand what our views are and accordingly perceive people and life at large,” he concluded.
This 3-day conference have various other eminent speakers lined up for rest of the two days. While, on day 2 i.e Saturday, January 6 will have famous Indian contemporary writer Chetan Bhagat to deliver a talk. Day 3, Sunday, January 7 will witness the friendship saga of Yuvraj Singh, famous all-rounder cricketer and Zaheer Khan, Indian cricket team's bowling coach.
